PC-cillin 2003 Bolsters PC Virus Protection All-in-One Suite Combines Antivirus and Firewall Eric Grevstad
Mon 11/18/02 -- Trend Micro has revamped its PC-cillin consumer and small-office/home-office security suite with the advanced antivirus technology of the company's enterprise-class products, as well as an integrated personal firewall.
PC-cillin 2003 combines dependable pattern-based virus recognition with patented heuristic scanning that defends against new, unknown script threats and automatically removes and repairs damaged caused by worms and Trojans. An industry-first, proactive advance warning service informs users of new virus outbreaks tracked by the global TrendLabs network, so they can obtain the latest virus pattern file to protect themselves before new viruses reach their PCs.
The program scans messages and attachments from POP3 e-mail servers and messages from Web mail servers, and offers WiFi protection to secure your laptop when using 802.11b wireless networking at a hotel, airport, or coffee shop. The built-in "smart" firewall prevents hacker attacks on xDSL, cable, or satellite connections.
Backed by toll-free phone support during business hours and e-mail support around the clock -- unlike, the company says, its competitors in the consumer segment -- PC-cillin 2003 is priced at $50, with a $25 upgrade deal for existing users.
