Symantec Upgrades Norton SystemWorks for 2003 Improved Virus Protection, Web Optimization Tools Eric Grevstad
Tue 9/3/02 -- Having upgraded its famed Norton AntiVirus for 2003 with new worm-blocking, instant message protection, and automatic removal of malicious code and retrieval of up-to-date virus definitions, Symantec Corp. has freshened the utility suite that Norton AntiVirus anchors: Norton SystemWorks 2003 features new Web optimization tools and system tuneup options as well as the new virus-fighter.
The $70 SystemWorks 2003 suite bundles Norton AntiVirus 2003 with Norton Utilities and Norton CleanSweep for comprehensive PC maintenance, problem-solving, system optimization, and file removal, as well as Roxio's GoBack 3 Personal Edition system-recovery tool for restoring healthy configurations and lost data even after a PC catastrophe. (Power users can choose the $100 SystemWorks Professional Edition, which adds the Norton Ghost 2003 disk-image and backup, Process Viewer, and a new PerformanceTest diagnostic and benchmarking module.)
The new WebTools component includes a Web Cleanup feature for easy, intuitive removal of temporary cache files, history items, and cookies, as well as a Connection Keep Alive utility that simulates user activity so a dial-up connection won't be terminated when online activity pauses. The One-Button Checkup feature now lets users select which system scans to run and schedule customized scans for regular deployment, and incorporates history log and undo functions.
