AlohaBob PC Relocator Moves From Corporate To Small Offices New Ways To Migrate Applications, Files, and Settings Eric Grevstad
Mon 8/19/02 -- Getting a new PC is fun; setting up a new PC with all your existing programs, data files, settings, and preferences is a major headache. Eisenworld Inc. is well-known for its extra-strength aspirin, AlohaBob PC Relocator Enterprise ($250 with a five-seat license) -- and now the company has added dosages suitable for individual power-user and even home-novice PC migrators.
The Enterprise version of AlohaBob saves time for IT managers when upgrading an OS or replacing hardware, transferring computer personalities between systems via a central TCP/IP management console. The new PC Relocator Ultra Control ($70) comes with a USB file-transfer cable and disaster-recovery features and lets PC experts selectively migrate every aspect of a PC's personality, including all programs, desktop and Internet settings, and data files, while the basic AlohaBob PC Relocator ($30) includes a parallel transfer cable that makes it easy for beginners to move bookmarks, image and music files, wallpaper, and applications.
All AlohaBob versions automatically scan two computers to find the latest versions of programs, files, and other preferences, quickly moving a user to a new PC (ideally after he or she runs Windows ScanDisk and some antivirus software). The new retail basic and Ultra Control packages will ship October 1.
