Adobe Premiere Update Adds More Video-Editing Power Classy Titles and Real-Time Previews Eric Grevstad
Thu 7/25/02 -- Ready to go beyond camcorder home movies? Version 6.5 of Adobe Systems' professional-class video editing package, Adobe Premiere, adds support for the latest capture cards and Sony DVCAM devices, as well as faster and easier production of video for DVD, tape, Web, CD-ROM, or film distribution.
New real-time preview capabilities reduce the time spent rendering projects, letting editors see effects, titles, and transitions as they're made. A new Adobe Title Designer offers over 100 predesigned templates and typographical controls, including outlined text, leading, and kerning, with more than 90 Adobe fonts specially chosen for video titling.
Videographers can export MPEG-2 files using a new MPEG encoder, then author DVD discs using the bundled version of DVDit LE. Sonic Desktop's SmartSound QuickTracks and 11 new source tracks provide royalty-free audio that can be altered to fit the length of any project, while five more special-effect filters from Adobe After Effects -- including Blend, Channel Blur, and Directional Blur -- help make videos even more eye-catching.
Adobe Premiere 6.5 costs $549, with a $149 upgrade for registered users of earlier editions. The updated program will also appear in the next version of Adobe's Digital Video Collection bundle with Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.
