Annotis Word Promises More Visual, Intuitive Way To Mark Up Documents $40 Utility Follows Microsoft Outlook Add-On Eric Grevstad
Mon 7/8/02 -- Microsoft Word has its own annotation and revision-tracking tools, but Emeris Technologies promises to take word processing collaboration and communication to a new level with a $40 add-on called Annotis Word, due to ship later this month.
Like the company's $25 Annotis Mail for Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, Annotis Word lets multiple users mark up a Word document using colorful tools such as highlights, sticky notes, stamps (akin to rubber stamps such as "Urgent" or "Approved"), and even voice recordings, images, video clips, or links to Web addresses. One tool adds handwritten (bitmap) underlinings or scribbled notes, while another links the highlighter to a pop-up sticky note.
Anyone using Microsoft Word can view the markups without having the Annotis software installed, and Annotis Word also lets users review each reader's additions in separate layers. The original Word document remains unaltered.
