CorelDraw Graphics Suite 11 Coming Next Month Three Potent Programs, Scads of Supporting Utilities Eric Grevstad
Mon 6/17/02 -- To make creating content for print and the Web more enjoyable, Corel Corp. says its CorelDraw Graphics Suite 11 is the most intuitive, time-saving version yet. Scheduled to ship in late July for $529 (upgrade price $249), the suite bundles the classic CorelDraw drawing package with Corel's Photo-Paint image editor and R.A.V.E. 2 for creating Web graphics and animations.
In addition to new tools, such as Roughen and Smudge brushes and support for reducing and reusing symbol elements of your designs, CorelDraw 11 saves time with shortcuts such as three-point ellipse, rectangle, and curve tools that let you specify the size and rotation of those shapes in two clicks. A single polyline tool creates curves and lines in one stroke, while live effects offer real-time feedback. Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) support has also been enhanced.
Photo-Paint 11 has a new cutout tool for quick masking of complex objects, a new red-eye removal tool for flash portraits, and enhanced slicing or segmenting of large images for Web-page loading -- or, contrarily, stitching or joining of images for panoramas. New objects and animated symbols for R.A.V.E. 2 reduce Flash file sizes, while animate and "tween" functions help create advanced text transitions and add more interactivity to diagrams, sequences, and Flash animations.
CorelDraw Graphics Suite 11 also includes an array of supporting utilities, from ScanSoft's OmniPage SE optical character recognition to Bitstream's Font Navigator 4 for typeface management and CorelTrace for converting bitmaps to vector images.
