Broderbund Announces All-New The Print Shop and MovieShop Deluxe Venerable Desktop Publisher Embraces Businesses and Broadband Eric Grevstad
Mon 5/20/02 -- You can go back to prehistoric times -- or at least the Apple II era -- and find families printing banners and greeting cards with Broderbund's The Print Shop. Now the company is taking the title into the 21st century with versions for small business publishing and cable or DSL modem users, and also introducing an easy-to-use video editing package.
Calling it "the most anticipated product upgrade in 17 years," Broderbund says The Print Shop 15 line will feature two programs. The Print Shop Pro Publisher Deluxe 15 ($100) will support serious business content such as price lists, newsletters, and forms, and the ability to save projects as Adobe Acrobat PDF files for high-resolution professional printing. The Print Shop Deluxe for Broadband ($60) will take advantage of high-speed Internet connections to store art and projects online, letting users create personalized libraries for access anywhere without disk swapping.
MovieShop Deluxe ($90) promises the same kind of creativity and productivity, but with video instead of still content and CD and DVD instead of paper and Web output. Tutorials walk users through creating and editing movies; adding special effects, transitions, and animated titles; and drag-and-drop import of still images, audio tracks, or ready-to-use footage and clip media supplied in themed content sets.
Advanced users can experiment with multiple layer support, clip stretching and compressing, image opacity, and custom audio controls. Finished movies can be burned to CD or DVD, importing and exporting between analog and digital video formats.
The new Broderbund titles will ship this August. A month later, the company will update its 3D Home Architect title with a 5.0 version based on a CAD engine designed for professional contractors, photorealistic 3D rendering, and unlimited customization of objects such as furniture, windows, and doors.
