Adobe Ships Photoshop 7.0 and New Creative Bundles
Is This the Ultimate Image Editor?
Eric Grevstad

Mon 4/22/02 -- The heavyweight champ of computer image editing just got heavier. Adobe Systems Inc. is now shipping Photoshop 7.0, an upgrade for Pentium III/4 and comparable system users that offers new features such as a Healing Brush that simplifies photo retouching by removing flaws such as scratches, creases, and dust, as well as a new Painting Engine that simulates traditional painting techniques and new Auto Color command for reliable color correction.

Photoshop 7.0's new File Browser lets you organize and review image thumbnails; quickly sort, rotate, or rename images; and view EXIF (Exchangeable Image File) data from digital cameras. A new Scripting Support plug-in automates repetitive tasks both within Photoshop and across multiple Adobe applications, while Web image enhancements make it easy to customize page elements with whole or partial transparency or edges that blend seamlessly into any background.

The program's estimated selling price is $609, with upgrades from earlier versions available for $149 and from Photoshop Elements for $499. Speaking of multiple Adobe applications, the company's bundled toolkits have each been updated with the new image editor.

In addition to Photoshop 7.0, the $999 Design Collection includes InDesign 2.0 and Acrobat 5.0; the $999 Web Collection includes GoLive 6.0, Illustrator 10, and LiveMotion 2.0; the $999 Publishing Collection includes PageMaker 7.0, Illustrator 10, and Acrobat 5.0; and the $1,199 Digital Video Collection includes Premiere 6.0, After Effects 5.5, and Illustrator 10.
