Jasc Software Introduces SVG Web Graphics Editor XML-Based Toolkit Makes Fast-Downloading Images and Animations Eric Grevstad
Mon 1/7/02 -- It's not a household word (all right, acronym) yet, but SVG -- the Scalable Vector Graphics language recently approved by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) -- is starting to change the way Web developers deliver graphics and animation. And Jasc Software Inc. hopes its new Jasc WebDraw will become as invaluable for SVG creators as its popular Paint Shop Pro is for GIF and JPG images.
SVG is an XML-based language that creates small, fast-downloading files with unlimited color and font choices, precise layout and design options, and support for image effects and animation. WebDraw lets designers create, edit, and save images in the native SVG file format, using both familiar drawing and animation tools for a short learning curve and SVG-specific shape tools and animation timelines.
Hands-on creators can examine and write SVG source code, while WYSIWYG designers can take advantage of a wide array of page layout options, onscreen text entry, gradient and pattern fills, and keyframe creation and editing features.
Jasc WebDraw will be available in late January for $199 boxed or $179 download, with a $50-off introductory offer through March 31, 2002.
