Firewall Vendor Tiny Software Adds Trojan/Worm Protection $20 Program Puts Active Content in a Cage Eric Grevstad
Mon 12/10/01 -- Tiny Software, known for its free-for-home-use Tiny Personal Firewall anti-hacker software, has added a new weapon to the Internet good guys' arsenal: Trojan Trap, a $20 utility that protects Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP systems against all new and unknown worms, Trojan horses, viruses, scripts, and Java applets.
Described by Tiny as the first commercially available behavior blocker, Trojan Trap seals off active content that makes it through a system's firewall, creating a "sandbox" or closed environment from which suspicious code cannot access drivers, the Registry, or file system -- even if the malicious script is too new to be recognized by antivirus software.
Trojan Trap automatically sets up sandboxes around Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers and Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Lotus Notes e-mail clients. It includes a cookie manager and Web and e-mail filters that prevent pages with unwanted information (such as active content) from coming in or messages with sensitive data from going out.
