ACD Systems Offers Zip Tool Optimized for Digital Images $20 Utility Helps Shrink and Share Pictures, Audio, and Video Files Eric Grevstad
Mon 11/26/01 -- You might use its popular ACDSee for managing and previewing digital images, but now ACD Systems International Inc. wants you to crumple images up and throw them away -- well, compress images and distribute them to far-flung friends or customers, anyway.
The company's new ACDZip ($20) brings the speed and ease of ACDSee to the ubiquitous archiving utility arena, eliminating the need for multiple image viewing programs by supporting all major file formats -- it can convert archived images to any of 14 formats, and convert existing archives to new formats in one easy step.
The program compresses images, audio, video, and document files and provides thumbnail previews, letting you view images in thumbnail size both before and after compression. ACDZip can also password-protect files with built-in encryption, and distribute archives as self-executable files so anyone can view them (with no other software required).
