Free Pop-Up Ad Blocker Updated for IE 6, Netscape 4.x X Out X10, Smut, Or Other Pop-Up / Pop-Under Browser Ads Eric Grevstad
Mon 11/19/01 -- For the record, internet.com sites like WinPlanet do not accept pop-up or pop-under ad windows. But in case you sometimes surf elsewhere, Panicware Inc. has updated its free Pop-Up Stopper utility.
Without affecting legitimate links (or traditional banner ads), Pop-Up Stopper 2.6 lets users block or selectively control windows that pop up or under Web pages -- stopping a common Internet annoyance while still letting you open new browser windows. (Previous versions obliged users to press the Ctrl key to open new windows.)
The new release also adds support for Netscape 4.x and Internet Explorer 6 browsers (it doesn't yet support MSN Explorer or AOL), and requires no proxy adjustments or filters which can slow surfing. Unlike many free products, Pop-Up Stopper is not adware or spyware; the $15 Pop-Up Stopper Pro adds more detailed pop-up control and an integrated Internet Explorer toolbar.
