Ontrack SystemSuite 4.0 Utilities Include Antivirus and Firewall Upgraded, XP-Compatible Utility Bundle Costs $60 Eric Grevstad
Thu 9/27/01 -- Even with the new features built into Windows, diagnostic and maintenance utilities, virus protection, and firewall defense against hackers are essential tools for today's PCs. Ontrack Data International Inc. puts them all in one box, plus additional extras, with SystemSuite 4.0, a collection of sophisticated and integrated utilities for Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP.
SystemSuite 4.0 bundles Ontrack's Fix-It Utilities -- including hard disk imminent failure warning and repair, data recovery, Registry repair and optimization, and a faster disk defragmenter -- with VirusScanner Pro, offering real-time protection against worms, Trojans, macro and boot-sector viruses, and poisoned POP3 and Microsoft Exchange e-mail attachments. It also includes Sygate Technologies' NetDefense, a two-way personal firewall that protects both dial-up and broadband connections against intruders and snoops.
In addition, the $60 suite offers Ontrack's EasyUninstall 2.0 to remove unwanted programs and Internet clutter; DataEraser Personal Edition to wipe out sensitive files; four one-step maintenance wizards that speed up, fix up, or clean up the entire system; and even a tool that synchronizes the PC's clock with an accurate Internet time source. Ontrack's advanced PowerDesk 4 Pro file manager is also included. An AutoUpdate feature alerts users when virus definitions and other updates are available for download.
SystemSuite 4.0 will be available at retail in early October, at which time Ontrack also plans to announce a subscription-based version dubbed My PC Tools.
