New Top Level Domains Soon to Appear The Deadline Has Passed Byron Alley
Monday October 2nd marked the last day for submitting proposals for new top level domain names. Now ICANN will begin selecting from among the submissions.
There are currently over 250 top level domain names (TLDs), including country codes such as .CA for Canada and .FR for France, and the familiar .COM, .NET and .ORG. ICANN, the non-profit organization charged with the responsibility for controlling Internet domain names, is going to add new TLDs intended for specific purposes. Some of the submissions include .NAME and .PERS for personal names, and .SHOP for commerce.
