(Aug 1, 2000) Microsoft announced promotional pricing for its Windows(R) Millennium Edition (Windows Me) operating system which is aimed at the home user. The special price is available for Microsoft(R) Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition customers who act quickly to make the upgrade. The software upgrade is slated to hit retail shelves on Sept. 14 and with a price tag of $59.99--this promotional price will remain until Jan. 15, 2001. After that, a $109 price for the upgrade will prevail. The OS strives to enhance the home computer users experience by adding features such as PC health, digital media, home networking and improvements to the online experience. There will be more recovery help when crashes do occur, an easier interface for digital image management, home networking or "connected home" features, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 for online connections and functions. The estimated retail price for Windows Me is the same as for Windows 98: $209 (U.S.) for the full-package product and $109 (U.S.) for a version upgrade from Windows 95.
