Microsoft Changes Tune On Gore's Monday Visit Microsoft Changes Tune On Gore's Monday Visit Paul Jones
Microsoft said earlier that Gore's Monday visit to the Redmond, Washington, campus would be closed to the media in keeping with company practices. Hours after the visit was announced on Friday, Gore demanded that it be opened.
"We're looking forward to seeing the vice president on the Microsoft campus on Monday and our employees look forward to hearing his views," said Rick Miller, a Microsoft spokesman.
The Democratic presidential hopeful is to be hosted by Microsoft vice president Jeff Raikes, as Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates is scheduled to be out of town attending Comdex, one of the largest computer trade shows.
The visit is sensitive due to last Friday's findings of fact by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson that Microsoft misused its monopoly powers. His decisive statement could signal the outcome of the landmark antitrust case.
